Polymer-Derived Ceramics
A method of producing engineering ceramics such as Silicon Carbide and Silicon Nitride from a precursor polymer. The main advantage of polymer-derived ceramics is their ability to be shaped while in the polymer form, prior to ceramicization.
Heidi's work is in developing shaping techniques for these materials to allow the production of cheaper ceramic parts.
